The Verona Snow : Indie / Electronic
BROOKLYN the character has forced themselves into seclusion; they are not trapped by another individual but have purposely trapped themselves. In this case, the room has a TV that shows a loop of clouds acting as a window, a surveillance camera capturing the character’s every move controlled by an unknown source, all the while she’s amused by her phone and the disarray she’s created around her, like her broken memories.
The video themes and visual imagery was as an allegory to modern times; our over-reliability on technology to remain social, our every move watched by the electronic eye of society and that our basic human needs can be satiated without the need to ever form that basic need like taking a walk, looking at the sky, erupting into dance or beginning to bleed. The fluidity of the piece through the motivated camera movement, muted tones and use of light and dark throughout, added to the mood and themes of the piece. The use of the camera shots, as certain frames repeat throughout yet, show different actions, highlight the monotony of her situation and her growing need for change/escape/passion.
