Iron Altar : Metal

The narrative looked at the generational relationship of ritual sacrifice from the past and linking it to the present, showing that even with time that passes, we are no better than we were. This was shown by depicting two separate sequences in quick flashes, using organic looking digital glitching effects captured on a mini-DV camcorder and overlaying that onto the sequences. There was “period” costume; furs, potato sacks, make-up and the mask for the goat priest (synonymous with the band’s image) and the selection of characters tied to the hands with primitive rope binds and faces covered with blindfolds. That was contrasted with the more present day costume of black t-shirts and cable ties.

The main character of the piece would be the goat priest (played by the lead singer) with the minions (his captures) played by the remaining members of the band. It had the loose narrative to hold it together, more that we would show the goat priest walking, as if through time, collecting his captures and then perform the sacrifice, slashing at his victims with a bird talon until their faces and eyes bleed from what they are witnessing.
