ECHO ARCADIA : Indie / Folk / Alternative
Working off the back of my previous and last release of 2017, Leigh from Echo Arcadia had asked for an animated multimedia film to accompany the final track of their latest album. The track, IT'S ABOUT TIME, told the story of a time-traveller in Jules Vern fashion, wandering as the world around him changes. The general premise that I adopted was to have a character actively waking from one time zone to the other, as the world around is gradually falling apart around them. It would involve repeating the same style of shots from scenario to scenario as the narrator tells the deeper narrative. It was designed to be simple but vibrant and quirky from it's hand-drawn style and colored card base. It was, like a Raymond Briggs animation, telling something quite serious while appearing to be quite childish. The simplistic visuals were to get across the idea of the environmental concerns and the wider issue that was represented, directly, from present day. The first thing that was produced was shooting the main character, played by Hannah Grace. It was a case of filming her performing a series of actions in stills, that would later be animated in post. The video, as much as it was designed to be simplistic, more of an Easter Egg to the release of the album as I feel I've made my best video work for them already. It's a charming and colourful video with some nice shooting and specific animations. I wouldn't say that I would make many of these types of videos, as I feel my strengths lie elsewhere, but it's an interesting and rewarding experience to produce something outwith your comfort zone.
